Well in that class we were talking specifically about romantic relationships. Friendships are a completely different level, they almost never endure the same amount of work and stress that a (serious) romantic relationship like marriage will. Your future will not depend on a friendship like it can with a romantic relationship, if you have children you are bound to argue about something, you won’t have children with a friend. So yeah, the quote doesn’t apply to friendships, but it definitely applies to romantic relationships. As my prof elaborated, the only way that there could be no argument in a romantic relationship is if one of the people were dead or if one of the people in that relationship just sticks their head in the sand.
